Professors from VSB–Technical University of Ostrava and INDRC (Czech Republic) Visit and Teach at Ton Duc Thang University

From March 1 to March 4, 2026, the European Cooperation Center (ECC) of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) hosted and worked with a delegation of professors from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VSB–Technical University of Ostrava, and the INDRC Research Institute ((International Neurodegenerative Disorders Research Center, Czech Republic).

The delegation participated in doctoral training and collaborative research activities at TDTU. Members included:

  • Václav Snášel – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, former Rector of VSB–Technical University of Ostrava, and Director of the CLARA Project
  • Vít Dočkal – Director of INDRC Research Institute
  • Eva Dočkalová – Project Manager, INDRC

Academic Teaching and Research Exchange

During their visit, the professors delivered lectures in TDTU’s sandwich-format doctoral training program, while also engaging in academic discussions and providing research guidance to PhD candidates.

ECC, in coordination with relevant faculties and departments, organized specialized academic activities to enhance postgraduate training quality and promote internationally aligned research directions.

CLARA Project Implementation and Research Collaboration

The delegation held working sessions with ECC leadership, the Faculty of Information Technology, the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and the Department of Science and Technology Management and Development to advance the CLARA Project.

This collaboration is part of the tripartite agreement between INDRC, TDTU, and the Vietnam Aviation Academy (VAA), signed in November 2025.

Initial agreements were reached, including the nomination of project participants by the Faculty of Information Technology:

  • One postdoctoral researcher
  • One PhD candidate in relevant research fields

International Seminar on Emerging Technologies

During the visit, ECC, in collaboration with the Faculty of Information Technology, organized an international seminar titled “AI, Big Data and Quantum.”

The event attracted leaders, academics, and researchers from various institutions, including:

  • Pham Van Dong University
  • International University – Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH)
  • Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade
  • Vietnam Aviation Academy
  • Dong Nai Technology University
  • Tien Giang University

The seminar served as an important academic forum for exchanging ideas on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and quantum technologies. Participants agreed to work towards making this forum an annual event.

Strengthening Collaboration with Industry and Domestic Partners

On March 3, 2026, Dr. Phan Dao and the delegation visited FPT Corporation at Saigon Hi-Tech Park. Representatives from FPT included Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phong (Chief Technology Officer), Dr. Nguyen Duy Khuong (Head of AI Lab, FPT Software), Assoc. Prof. Bui Anh Tuan (Data Scientist), and other experts.

The discussions focused on potential research collaboration in quantum technologies, data science, and real-world technological challenges.

Dr. Phan Dao introduced TDTU’s industry-linked doctoral training model and proposed collaboration with FPT in:

  • Addressing practical engineering and technological problems
  • Connecting enterprises with academic programs and the Vietnamese expert network in the Czech Republic

Expanding Strategic Partnerships

On the same day, the delegation worked with the Vietnam Aviation Academy (VAA). Assoc. Prof. Tran Hoai An, President of VAA, and institutional leaders discussed the implementation of the INDRC – TDTU – VAA tripartite cooperation.

The delegation also visited Hung Vuong Hospital to explore collaboration opportunities in:

  • AI applications in neuroscience research
  • Research on neonatal and adolescent health

Towards the Czech–Viet Innovation & Impact Hub (CVII Hub)

During the visit, partners discussed the establishment of the Czech–Viet Innovation & Impact Hub (CVII Hub), envisioned as a platform to connect research, education, and innovation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.

Reaffirming Long-term Partnership

On March 4, 2026, Assoc. Prof. Tran Trong Dao met with the delegation. On behalf of the delegation, Prof. Václav Snášel expressed his appreciation for the long-standing and effective cooperation between TDTU and VSB–Technical University of Ostrava.

He emphasized that this partnership provides a strong foundation for future initiatives, including the development of the CVII Hub.

Conclusion

The visit of the Czech delegation concluded successfully, contributing to:

  • Strengthening international collaboration in education and research
  • Promoting applied research projects, particularly in AI and advanced technologies
  • Expanding connections among universities, research institutes, enterprises, and international partners
