Today, 8th August 2020, the European Cooperation Centre and Bata Center combined with the Student center of Technical University of Ostrava (www.vsb.cz) and University of Ostrava (www.osu.cz) to organize TDTU's Day at Ostrava City. That is the second time that these centers organized this event. The main contents of TDTU's Day are sports and cultural activities of students and researchers of Ton Duc Thang University studying in the Czech Republic.
Many interesting accounts shared by the students included studying, examination, part-time jobs, especially the topic regarding COVID-19. Through their stories, they said they had to focus on precaution for themselves by wearing facemasks. They might be the pioneers not only in Ostrava but in the Czech Republic to wear facemasks to prevent the virus from early March. Even before the time when the Czech Government announced the epidemic and social distance command that took effect from 16th March.The weather was nice. It was 30oC and there was a light breeze that is very suitable for extra-curriculum activities. After nearly a 2km walked from Ostrava City Center through Komensky Park (the park bears the name of the great Czech teacher. It is also the largest park in Moravia-Silesia), the group camped on a lawn on the banks of the Ostravice River. They had a chance to broaden their horizon with the incredible scenery, and they also enjoyed swimming in this cooling river with rows of pine, oak and willow trees aging nearly several decades to 100 years old along the banks of the river. They also participated in playing badminton, football, volleyball, etc. Noticeably, they were served BBQ and Czech beer to recharge their energy after doing a barrage of activities. The river, the trees on both banks gave the Vietnamese student wonderful relaxing moments and a memory of the Saigon River. Every student hoped that the water of the Saigon River will someday be clear and surrounded by the number of green trees like the Ostravice River.
They also had a remarkable memory on TDTU's Day this year when two police officers appeared and reminded them about grilling meat in the park. It was quite interesting as this was the first time that these students had an opportunity to talk with the Czech police. The police officers were happy that the students were responsible for their actions. The students offered a cup of beer for the police to drink, but both of them refused it since they were working.
Ending a hang-out day with unforgettable memories, fascinating sceneries and nostalgia for the hometown river, Saigon River, Vam Co Dong River…
