Delegation of Rectors of Czech Universities and Director of European Cooperation Center Visiting and Working in Hanoi

In the phase of the implementation quality goal, expanding training & research cooperation among Czech Universities and Institutes/ Universities in Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries, Dr. Phan Dao, Director of European Cooperation Center (ECC) and Rectors of Tomas Bata University and VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic visited and worked with partners' institutes, universities in Ha Noi and Vientiane (capital of Laos) from March 31st to April 3rd, 2019. 

On the morning of April 1st, the delegation paid a working visit to Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and a number of its unit members. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan, President of VASS, Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh, Vice President of VASS cordially received the delegation. Prof. Nguyen An Ha, Director of the Institute for European Studies also participated in the reception. The parties agreed that the research cooperation in the field of social sciences between Vietnam and the Czech Republic is minimal, not exploiting the great potential of both sides; Meanwhile the Czech Republic is the only country in the world that recognizes the Vietnamese community as an ethnic minority, one of fourteen ethnic groups in the Czech Republic. After discussing frankly and sincerely, leaders of the parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a basis for their cooperation in training and research. 

At the reception, Prof. V.Snasel and Prof. V.Sedlarik invited Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan to visit and work in the Czech Republic. The parties continuously discussed to determine the specific time and program through Dr. Phan Dao, Director of ECC, Ton Duc Thang University.

On the same day, the delegation visited and worked in Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ha Noi. Mr. V. Grepl, Head of Mission Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Mr. L. Musil, Deputy Head of Mission, Political, Press, and Cultural Section warmly welcomed the delegation. The delegation reported the results of the work between two universities with VASS and a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Vu Duc Dam.

The rectors asked the Embassy of the Czech Republic and Mr. V. Grepl to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese students and Ph.D. students to study in VSB - Technical University of Ostrava and Tomas Bata University.
Dr. Phan Dao not only reported to Ambassador about achievements of TDTU and Czech Universities on bachelor, master and doctoral program; but also proposed Mr. V. Grepl to support the establishment of a Czech – Vietnam training institute so that Czech universities could enroll and train in Vietnam soon.   

The visit and work of the delegation in Hanoi was successful. In the afternoon, the delegation left Hanoi Capital to Vientiane, the capital of Lao People's Democratic Republic at the invitation of the Department International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Sports (Laos).
